Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary

This picture was found at the time of the 1918 armistice in the cellar of a boarding school where the Franciscan tertiary Bertha Petit was educated. In putting things in order, after the soldiers left, a nun discovered a piece of cardboard with a pornographic picture pasted on it. She tore it off to burn it. She was astonished to find that it covered this beautiful picture. It's said that "it seems to combine the art of both the Eastern and Western rites." Prayer before it "has brought signal favors."

On Dec. 25, 1909 Our Lord confided to Bertha Petit "Teach souls to love the Heart of My Mother pierced by the very sorrow which pierced Mine."

It suggests to me that we need to tear away the immorality of our time and look upon the beauty of the pure heart of Mary.
