With some imagination, I saw something in the picture of the smoke drifting off California.  I made a printout and penned in the rough shape of a dragon.
I went to Chapter 12 of the Apocalypse and I wonder about the dragon spoken of there: about the battle in heaven, between Michael and his angels, and the great dragon being cast down, the ancient serpent called the devil who leads astray the world (12:7-9).  In verse 12 it says, "Woe to the earth and to the sea, because the devil has gone down to you in great wrath, knowing that he has but a short time."
Later in the chapter it speaks of  the dragon pursuing the woman.  "And the serpent cast out of his mouth after the woman water like a river, that he might cause her to be carried away by the river."  In verses 17-18, it says, "And the dragon was angered by the woman, and went away to wage war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God, and hold fast the testimony of Jesus.  And he stood upon the sand of the sea."
I think one needs to be careful about interpreting things, but I wonder if there is a linkage here to what happened in California with regard to the fires.  Yes, it happened in nature and the wind of nature blew, fanning flames which found things to burn, and unfortunately, homes.  And people have suffered because of the fire.  But did God permit it, to wake man up to correct the immorality in the world, before something much more terrible happens, perhaps a calamity of epic proportions?  I believe that while man is behind the great evil of abortion and things akin to it, the devil can be behind man in these things...to lead astray the world.

There was a link to the picture which seemed sharper than my printout, to compare with the picture above: http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/NewImages/Images/California_AMO_2006260_lrg.jpg.  But I found out that the link, no longer takes you to it (JR, 5-10-10).
